Morocco’s FM, Japanese Counterpart Discuss Regional and International Issues

Tokyo – Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Japanese counterpart, Yoko Kamikawa, discussed on Friday in Tokyo a number of regional and international issues, including the situation in the Middle East and the Sahel region, as well as in coastal countries of the Gulf of Guinea.

The two ministers also exchanged views on the situation in East Asia, particularly in North Korea, said the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement issued after the talks.

Talks between the two ministers also focused on international cooperation, strengthening the functions of the United Nations, including Security Council reform, as well as women’s issues and the promotion of peace and security, the same source added. 

Bourita and Kamikawa also reaffirmed their determination to continue cooperating within the framework of the Japan-Arab Economic Forum and the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

Earlier in the day, the two ministers signed a Memorandum of Cooperation for Enhanced Partnership.This Memorandum, which illustrates the quality and depth of relations between the two countries, marked in particular by the historical esteem ties between the Illustrious Royal Family and the Japanese Imperial Family, defines the main lines of future cooperation between Rabat and Tokyo.

The two countries reaffirm, in this document, their commitment to work together for the preservation of peace and international order, based on the principles and goals of the United Nations Charter, as well as on the principles of respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
