Enaam Mayara, Speaker of Morocco’s House of Councilors, emphasized the significance of this gathering as an opportunity for Mediterranean parliamentarians to address pressing matters such as migration, counter-terrorism, and human trafficking, with the aim of fostering stronger ties among countries across the Mediterranean region.

Mayara highlighted PAM’s overarching objective of bolstering legislative cooperation among Mediterranean nations and expanding its purview to encompass various other domains. The session’s proceedings were inaugurated with the presentation of the PAM Excellence Award to the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency, lauding its humanitarian efforts and support for the Palestinian people’s resistance in Al-Quds, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

This recognition underscores Morocco’s commitment, led by His Majesty the King, to fostering understanding and collaboration among the peoples of the Euro-Mediterranean region, promoting values of mutual respect, coexistence, cooperation, and solidarity.

The Excellence Award ceremony served as a prelude to the upcoming Marrakech Parliamentary Economic Forum’s second edition, slated for July 11 and 12, where the Agency will be formally honored.

The opening of the 18th PAM session in Braga was graced by the presence of Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, along with José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, Speaker of the Portuguese National Assembly, alongside representatives from member countries, international organizations, researchers, diplomats, and private sector stakeholders.
