The Moroccan-French Economic Forum opened today in Rabat, bringing together hundreds of companies from both nations with focus on building a stronger economic partnership and exploring new investment opportunities.

Nadia Fattah Alaoui, Morocco’s Minister of Economy and Finance, emphasized the forum’s role in “renewing French-Moroccan economic relations based on new and strong foundations.”

She highlighted the importance of addressing shared economic challenges and strengthening the existing partnership.

Alaoui pointed to the “common story” shared by Morocco and France, including upcoming international sporting events (Paris Olympics and Morocco’s 2030 World Cup bid) and the global energy crisis.

She stressed the need to “move forward and follow new economic foundations that provide added value” to the existing strong trade ties.

Discussions also touched on Morocco’s efforts to decarbonize its industries, aligning with European standards, while French companies expressed readiness to invest in renewable energy projects like solar, wind, and green hydrogen, as well as the strategic Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline.

President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, Chakib Alj, highlighted Morocco’s strong qualifications, particularly in the automotive industry, with significant French investment, and urged French companies to invest in the upcoming 2030 World Cup projects, emphasizing the need for immediate action.

The forum continues, tackling diverse economic topics including the impact of the Ukraine crisis on energy security and the importance of energy transition.

Discussions also delve into Morocco’s economic potential, with a focus on strategic projects like seawater desalination.

This forum, themed “Together towards renewed momentum for economic and social opportunities,” serves as a platform for the French-Moroccan private sector to contribute to a new economic roadmap for both nations.
