Morocco and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) signed, on April 24 in Meknes, on the sidelines of the 16th International Agricultural Exhibition in Morocco (SIAM), the project document “A Water-Resilient Future”, which is part of the Water Scarcity Initiative launched in 2013.

With a budget of approximately $31.5 million, this project document which was signed by the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki, and the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization in Morocco, Jean Senahoun, will extend over the period from June 2024 to September 2028.

This project aims to strengthen governance, improve the resilience of food systems, and ensure the exchange of knowledge and expertise for better food and water security.

This project follows the positive results of a preliminary project entitled “Water Efficiency, Productivity and Sustainability in the NENA Region”, carried out between 2016 and 2022 with financial support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) amounting to $14 million for the benefit of 8 countries, including Morocco.

Underway until April 28 under the theme “Climate and Agriculture: For Sustainable and Resilient Production Systems”, the 16th edition of SIAM witnesses the participation of over 70 countries, including Spain as guest country of honor.
