Some 900 athletes from 58 countries will take part in the 38th edition of Marathon des Sables which will take place on April 12-22 in the Moroccan Sahara, under the high patronage of HM King Mohammed VI.

The Marathon will feature 6 stages over a distance of 252 km, the longest timed distance ever offered in the history of this Marathon, the organizers said in a press release, adding that the athletes will “experience a human and sporting adventure which will push them to explore their limits”.

“This edition promises to be both difficult and very pleasant for all the participants. Among them, we will find El Morabity brothers and Ahmed Oukhalfen who will form the TGCC Team, Aziza El Amrany revelation of the 2023 edition, the Yachou brothers and Aziza Raji for Team SOFAC, the Amaoui brothers and Mohamed Rahmoun for Volkswagen Morocco, but also the French trail runner Yoann Stuck”, the same source noted.

Marathon des Sables is a foot race, open to runners and walkers, with several stages, free style, and with food self-sufficiency. Each participant must carry his/her own backpack containing food, sleeping gear and other material.

This multi-stage competition tests not only physical but also mental resilience, standing out for its extreme difficulty. The 2024 edition is shaping up to be particularly remarkable, introducing new features in terms of self-sufficiency and sustainable innovations, while being the longest in its history, the press release concluded.
