HM King Mohammed VI Constantly Emphasizes Link Between Economic Growth, Social Justice

The Speaker of the House of Councilors, Enaam Mayara, stated on February 19 in Rabat that His Majesty King Mohammed VI has never ceased to shed light on the close link between economic growth, justice, and social cohesion, indicating that one of the most advanced forms of social protection is that which helps create of job opportunities and preserves dignity.

Intervening at the opening of the 8th edition of the International Parliamentary Forum on Social Justice, held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Mayara noted that the Sovereign attaches great importance to issues relating to equality and the fight against discrimination at the workplace, the eradication of child labor, providing people with specific needs to decent employment and the restructuring of the informal sector.

In this regard, the Upper House Speaker referred to the 2011 Constitution preamble, which enshrines the Kingdom’s irreversible decision to consolidate the foundations of a united society in which everyone can enjoy security, freedom, dignity, parity, equal opportunities, social justice and a decent life within the framework of respecting the close link between the rights and obligations of citizens.

In the same context, Mayara explained that the Fundamental Law also states that public authorities work to create conditions guaranteeing the freedom and equality of citizens, as well as their participation in political, economic, cultural, and social life. 

According to the Moroccan official, this law also reaffirms commitments related to the protection of economic, social, and cultural rights for the benefit of different categories of the population with the aim of achieving inclusive social justice.

The 8th International Parliamentary Forum on Social Justice focuses on the correlation and complementarity between decent work and sustainable development under international and national standards and Goal 8 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which aims to promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

Organized by the House of Councilors in partnership with the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) under the theme “Decent Work in Favor of Sustainable Development”, the 8th International Parliamentary Forum on Social Justice aims to present parliamentary approaches capable of guaranteeing decent work, one of the foundations of the consolidation of social justice and the consecration of the pillars of the social State, in accordance with the High Royal Guidelines.
