Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, held talks, on Monday in Rabat, with Director for North Africa and the Horn of Africa at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Cheick-Oumar Sylla, on ways to strengthen this institution’s commitment towards Moroccan economic operators.

During the meeting, Fettah and Sylla also reviewed the main cooperation projects between Morocco and the IFC, said the Ministry of Economy and Finance on its website.

On this occasion, Fettah praised the support and guidance provided by the IFC, for over 60 years, to the development of the Moroccan private sector and to the strengthening of its role as a driver of investment and job creation, according to the same source.

In this regard, the Minister underlined the important role that the IFC could play in supporting the government’s efforts in the run-up to the major sporting events that Morocco is preparing to host over the next few years, particularly in the fields of port and airport infrastructure, railways, the financial sector, water desalination and digital technology.

Fettah also called on the IFC to step up its support for the major structuring projects undertaken by the Kingdom, capitalizing on the institution’s expertise in structuring PPP projects.

For his part, the IFC’s Director for North Africa and the Horn of Africa, who is on a working visit to Morocco from January 29 to February 2, praised the quality of cooperation relations between the IFC and Morocco, framed by a memorandum of understanding signed in June 2021.

In this context, Sylla, quoted in the statement, emphasized the IFC’s willingness to continue supporting Morocco’s efforts in a number of areas, including capital investment, SME development, renewable energies, infrastructure projects and regional development.
