Tourist arrivals in Morocco reached a record-breaking 14.5 million in 2023, increasing 34% above 2022 levels, the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy announced.

“Tourism in Morocco has reached a new historic milestone. In fact, Morocco welcomed 14.5 million tourists in 2023, a remarkable increase of +34% compared to 2022 and +12% compared to 2019,” said the ministry in a press release.

Moroccan expatriates accounted for 51% of these arrivals, recording growth of 27% compared to 2022, the same source said.

Foreign tourists, on their part, recorded a considerable increase of 41% compared to 2022. They now account for 49% of total arrivals, up 3 points from 2022.

Despite the complex global geopolitical context, last December was marked by unprecedented visitor numbers, with the arrival of almost 1.3 million tourists, equally divided between Moroccans living abroad and foreign tourists. This dynamic confirms Morocco’s appeal as a choice tourist destination, meeting the expectations of both the Moroccan diaspora and international travelers.

The Ministry also pointed out that this new record for tourist arrivals significantly exceeds the initial target set for 2023 as part of the 2023-2026 tourism roadmap.

This roadmap was based on the arrival of 13.5 million visitors, but the results surpassed expectations with an additional million visitors.
