Morocco’s football apparatus shines bright during 2023 CAF Awards ceremony

Morocco’s Walid Regragui was named best African coach of the year, during the 2023 CAF Awards ceremony, held Monday evening at the Congress Palace of Marrakech.

Algerian Abdelhak Benchikha (Simba SC) and Senegal’s national team coach Aliou Cissé were also in the running for this award.

The success of Moroccan football is the fruit of a joint effort, Morocco’s national team coach Walid Regragui said during his acceptance speech.

All members of the national team endeavor to promote Moroccan football, Regragui underlined at a speech after winning the award of the best African coach of the year, during the 2023 CAF Awards ceremony, held Monday evening at the Congress Palace.

On this occasion, the national coach extended his thanks to HM King Mohammed VI for his continued support, as well as to President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa.

He also stressed that during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the national team represented the entire African continent.

“I think this award also goes to the other nominees who are doing a great job,” he added.

President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, said that “Moroccan football inspires African countries to dream to win a World Cup.”

Speaking at the 2023 CAF Awards ceremony, Lekjaa underlined that African countries can aspire to achieve the dream of winning a World Cup.

Dedicating the award of the best African national team of the year to King Mohammed VI and Moroccans, FRMF president praised the efforts of the Sovereign who have made Moroccan football a model, particularly through high-level infrastructure.

The performance of the Moroccan national football team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is “a source of pride” for Moroccans and all Africans, said President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe.

Motsepe stressed that the performance of the Atlas Lions at Qatar’s World Cup shows that African countries can achieve extraordinary successes in different competitions.

Extending his thanks to Morocco for hosting this event, he noted that the CAF Awards show that African football can compete globally.

“We shall prepare African countries to become world football champions”, CAF president underlined, adding that the development of football in Africa is a collective endeavor.

Motsepe added that “football has the power to unite Africa. Its role shall be recognized to make the continent a destination for world football.”

During the award ceremony, the Kingdom’s national team was named best African national team, with its goalkeeper Yassine Bounou being crowned best in Africa.

Morocco is hosting, for the 2nd consecutive year the CAF Awards, which celebrate the excellence of African football, after the 2022 edition held at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora.
